Troubleshooting

Electric Pumps

If the pump's power fluctuates during operation, the AC/DC Adapter for the pump might not be working correctly. Try placing 4 brand-new AA alkaline batteries into the pump. If the pump works without interruption using the batteries, the problem is most likely the AC/DC Adapter. Please contact Customer Service to receive warranty service for a new AC/DC Adapter.

Your AC/DC Adapter is covered by a 120-day limited warranty.

Try keeping batteries in the pump. Placing batteries in the pump's main unit fills the empty space and muffles the pump's noise, which can inadvertently act as an amplifier of sound when empty.

Test your pump's noise level by running it on different surfaces available in your home or office; sound reverberates more strongly through objects that have a lower density than others.

If your pump's noise level suddenly increases, there may be a foreign object that was sucked into the pump which has caused a blockage. This is usually associated with a sudden loss of suction problem.

Yes. The Serene Express, Glory Express, Easy Express 2, and Easy Express operate with 4.5-12V power. Running a pump on 4 AA alkaline batteries provides 6V combined voltage. It is convenient power; however, the lifetime of this power source is limited. Although you can use rechargeable batteries, most rechargeable batteries have only 4.5 combined voltage which deplete while the pump is running. Running the pump with lesser voltage will affect the efficiency of the pump.

If only one side has low or lost suction, the problem is not with the pump.

Most issues with low or lost suction are due to misassembly or a damaged One-Way Valve.

Please reassemble the Expression Collection Combo Kit following the assembly instructions found in your User Manual or our online guide. Try replacing the One-Way Valves with new ones.

To determine if you have a damaged One-Way Valve, please perform the "Bottle Test," as instructed in the Self-Diagnostic video found at www.rumbletuff.com.

To determine if your pump is malfunctioning, detach the tubing from the back of your pump and place a finger over the tubing adapter inlet. If you do feel suction, the pump's main unit is operating correctly. If you do NOT feel suction or feel that the suction has decreased to an unexpected strength, the pump might not be operating correctly. Please contact Customer Service for assistance.

Nipple pain can occur when you are using an incorrect size flange for your nipple.

Our Breastshield Body (or flange) has a standard 24 mm diameter.

If you have a smaller nipple size, using the Silicone Cushions that come with your Rumble Tuff breast pump should help improve the situation, as they reduce the breast shield diameter.

If you have a regular nipple size, please try to use your pump without the Silicone Cushions.

If you have a large nipple size that doesn't fit well in our breast shield, we recommend using an extender with your pump, such as Pumpin Pal flanges, which provide different size options. Please be aware that by using an extender, the suction power may be slightly affected due to the increase in space between the pump and the nipple. However, this can be amended by adjusting the pump's suction level to a higher level.

Visit Pumpin Pal to place an order. Use the code RUMBLE (all caps) at checkout for a special discount.

Whenever there is an imbalance in suction strength, there is nothing wrong with the pump unit.

The Expression Collection Combo Kit with the lesser suction may have been misassembled or it may have a leaking One-Way Valve. Try the following for the malfunctioning Expression Collection Combo Kit:
  • Reassemble the Expression Collection Combo Kit following the assembly instructions found in your User Manual.
  • Inspect the One-Way Valve for milk deposits or tears. Try replacing your used valve with one of the spare valves that is provided with your pump.

You can order more One-Way Valves at our online store.

General Questions

In support of the WHO Code, we made the decision to remove nipples from the bottle adapter kits included with your Rumble Tuff breast pump. Our Feeding Bottle Kits (found in our online store) still retain their nipples, and our bottle adapter rings are compatible with many feeding nipples found in stores.

The WHO Code is a set of international guidelines regarding the sale and marketing of artificial feeding methods for infants. The aim of the WHO Code is to increase awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and breast milk and to discourage many of the targeted advertising campaigns that steer mothers away from feeding their infants breast milk. Read more about it here.

Visually inspect the tip of the One-Way Valve for any physical crack or tear. The damage may be hard to see.

While the collection bottle is connected to the pump by the vacuum tubing, unscrew the bottle from the Collection Combo Kit and use your palm or another flat object to cover up the breast shield opening. Turn on the pump and watch the movement of the One-Way Valve. If the two edges of the valve tip do not scrunch up and pucker during pumping, the valve may be damaged.

Perform the “Bottle Test” as instructed in our Self-Diagnostic video to determine if you have a leaking valve. Video link can be found at www.rumbletuff.com.

View question

Our One-Way Valves are constructed from a durable silicone that is made to withstand heavy use; however, One-Way Valves can be damaged through inadequate cleaning, overboiling, or through mishandling. Do not overboil your One-Way Valve while sanitizing, and make sure to clean the valve properly after each use as dried milk may clog the valve and reduce vacuum suction.

When cleaning, wash gently in warm, soapy water. Do not insert anything into the valve. Please refer to your User Manual for proper cleaning instructions.

When inserting the One-Way Valve, do not twist. Gently push it into place.
