In celebration of World Black Breastfeeding Week, Rumble Tuff is proud to spotlight Sinzia Comfort, a Black-owned company founded by Eva Wagura. Sinzia Comfort is dedicated to creating culturally rich children’s bedding and products that resonate with families across the globe. As a brand that aligns with our values of representation, quality, and support for breastfeeding mothers, we at Rumble Tuff are thrilled to share an inspiring conversation with Eva. Her journey in building Sinzia Comfort reflects a deep commitment to cultural pride, empowering mothers, and fostering a nurturing environment for children. Through this collaboration, we aim to highlight the importance of diversity in the maternity industry and the impact of culturally resonant products on the lives of families.

Q1: What inspired you to start Sinzia Comfort, and how does your personal journey influence the mission and vision of the company?

Eva Wagura: When my daughter started daycare at two, I was concerned about how she’d sleep without her cherished blanket, a special gift from her aunt in Kenya. The daycare required a nap mat, which meant she couldn’t bring her blanket, and I realized there were no culturally rich options that offered the same comfort.

That moment sparked my mission to create something that would comfort my daughter while celebrating our African roots. Inspired by her love for that special blanket and my deep connection to our Kenyan heritage, Sinzia Comfort was born.

Sinzia Comfort fills that gap by crafting children’s bedding that weaves African artistry into everyday life. But it’s about more than just beautiful products—it’s about supporting mothers and nurturing a sense of belonging. I want moms to win, and I want every child to feel seen, valued, and connected to a diverse world. Through Sinzia Comfort, we aim to build a global village where these values thrive, and all cultures are respected.

Q2: What feedback have you received from parents who have used Sinzia Comfort, and how has that feedback shaped the way you run the company?

Eva Wagura: Our customers love our vibrant designs and colors, often describing them as bringing joy and energy into their homes. Comments like “The mat looks joyous!” remind us to create bold, cheerful products.

Quality and comfort are central to what we do—comfort is even in our name. Parents have praised the softness and thickness of our mats, with one noting, “Yours is soft AND thick,” and others appreciating how our swaddles remain durable and vibrant after many washes. This feedback drives us to maintain high standards in both design and durability.

One parent shared, “I don’t think anyone will have the same swaddle. Representation is so key and important.” This commitment to cultural representation continues to guide our design choices, ensuring every piece we create is a celebration of heritage and a source of pride for our customers.

Q3: How does Sinzia Comfort ensure the products it connects parents with are safe, high-quality, and supportive of both mother and baby?

Eva Wagura: We are dedicated to ensuring that every product we offer is safe, high-quality, and supportive for both mother and baby. Our Sinzia Swaddles are a prime example. Made from 100% muslin cotton, they are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified, ensuring they are gentle on delicate skin, breathable to prevent overheating, and highly absorbent for comfort.

These swaddles are also designed to last, becoming softer with each wash while maintaining durability. Muslin is a natural, hypoallergenic fabric less likely to cause allergic reactions, providing parents with peace of mind.

Versatility is key—our swaddles are generously sized for multiple uses, from swaddling to serving as a nursing cover or play mat. We use non-toxic, eco-friendly dyes to create our vibrant, unique designs, ensuring they remain safe and bright after many washes.

To further support parents, we include detailed care instructions with every product, helping them maximize safety and longevity.

Q4: What challenges have you faced in growing Sinzia Comfort, and how have you adapted to meet the needs of a diverse and evolving parent community?

Eva Wagura: Building Brand Awareness
As a relatively new brand, especially one that emphasizes cultural representation and unique designs, establishing brand awareness in a crowded market has been challenging. Differentiating Sinzia Comfort from other brands that offer similar products has required us to focus on our unique value propositions, such as our commitment to representation and the multifunctionality of our products. We've employed strategic marketing initiatives, including social media campaigns, influencer collaborations aligned with our brand values, and participation in community events, all of which have helped us reach a broader audience while staying true to our mission.

Meeting Diverse Needs
The parent community is diverse, with varying needs, preferences, and cultural backgrounds. Our challenge was to create products that resonated with this wide array of parents while maintaining a cohesive brand identity. We’ve had to listen closely to our customers, often through direct feedback, to understand their specific needs and adapt our offerings accordingly to include items that cater to specific cultural preferences, and ensure our designs resonate with a wide range of parents. It’s a delicate balance of bringing everyone along, making sure no one feels left out or misrepresented.

Q5: As a Black entrepreneur, how do you see Sinzia Comfort contributing to the normalization and support of breastfeeding within the Black community during World Black Breastfeeding Week?

Eva Wagura: Our journey is deeply rooted in cultural representation. We design products that resonate with Black mothers, celebrating our rich heritage and creating an environment where they feel seen and valued. This cultural pride fosters confidence, encouraging more Black mothers to embrace breastfeeding.

Our high-quality, functional items, like breathable muslin swaddles, enhance the breastfeeding experience. We also support mental well-being with affirmation cards, offering encouragement and positivity. By partnering with organizations like Rumble Tuff during World Black Breastfeeding Week, we share resources and stories, breaking down barriers and fostering a supportive community for Black mothers.

Q6: What does being a Black-owned business in the maternity industry mean to you, and how do you hope Sinzia Comfort inspires other Black entrepreneurs in this space?

Eva Wagura: Being a Black-owned business in the maternity industry fills me with pride and a deep sense of responsibility. It’s more than just offering products for mothers and babies; it’s about honoring our culture and creating a legacy that uplifts our community. Sinzia Comfort is a testament to breaking barriers and setting new standards in an industry where our stories have often been overlooked.

I hope Sinzia Comfort inspires other Black entrepreneurs to bring their unique perspectives and cultural heritage into the maternity space. My journey proves that there’s room for us to create high-quality, culturally resonant products that not only serve our community but also compete on a broader scale. I want others to see that they can build successful businesses that make a meaningful impact while staying true to their authentic selves.

Being a Black-owned business in this space is about leadership, representation, and empowerment. I’m committed to ensuring that Sinzia Comfort continues to inspire, uplift, and pave the way for more Black entrepreneurs to thrive in this industry.
