This interview offers a closer look at how Rose Maternity Co. is meeting the needs of a diverse community and inspiring the next generation of Black entrepreneurs in the maternity industry.

Q1: What inspired you to start Rose Maternity Co., and how does your personal journey influence the mission and vision of the company?

Britnee Wheeler: As a full-time working mom juggling corporate HR leadership roles, raising a growing family, and supporting my husband during deployments, I know firsthand the challenges of balancing it all. When I couldn’t find a postpartum undergarment that met my specific needs, I took matters into my own hands and created my own solution. These personal experiences inspired me to start Rose Maternity Co., a company dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality postpartum products that help moms have a comfortable recovery after delivery.

Q2: What feedback have you received from parents who have used Rose Maternity Co., and how has that feedback shaped your business practices?

Britnee Wheeler: We’ve received incredibly positive feedback from moms, who often praise the quality and thoughtfulness of our products, as well as our personalized customer service. Moms are pleasantly surprised by our Postpartum Recovery Undergarment, describing it as a “game-changer.” They’ve shared that it provides support in the right places, stays put, and doesn’t pull on their scars. One mom even said, “The support! This undergarment is extraordinary. Everything from the design to the material to the packaging is beautiful.” This feedback has reinforced our commitment to innovation and has prompted us to enhance our educational offerings to ensure parents are aware of the features and benefits of our products.

“Ensuring the safety and quality of our products is our top priority, especially with our signature RoseRelief™ Recovery Undergarment, designed to provide customizable compression and comfort for postpartum recovery.”

Q3: How does Rose Maternity Co. ensure the products it connects parents with are safe, high-quality, and supportive of both mother and baby?

Britnee Wheeler: Regular discomfort is a reality as you recover from childbirth, whether it’s tenderness, sutures, cesarean incisions, hemorrhoids, or back pain. While it’s not the glamorized part of being a new mother, finding ways to soothe the aches and pains of our changing bodies is essential. Thus, ensuring the safety and quality of our products is our top priority. This is especially true for our signature RoseRelief™ Recovery Undergarment. It’s soft, washable, and full coverage, accommodating moms of all sizes (up to 3X). What sets it apart is its adjustable sides, offering customizable compression for optimal abdomen support and fit. But that’s not all – it features a patent-pending pocket designed to hold the SoothingPetals™ Ice/Heat Gel pack. This elongated pack discreetly provides comfort to the vaginal area for pain management.

Q4: What role does customer education play in Rose Maternity Co.’s approach to helping parents make informed decisions about your products?

Britnee Wheeler: At Rose Maternity Co., we believe in spreading awareness about all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood while innovating ways to soothe and provide comfort to a mother’s body inside and out. To this end, we take a holistic approach to building resources on our platforms to educate moms and their supporters on postpartum recovery and how we aim to bridge the gaps in the postpartum space.

Our patent-pending technology won’t stop at postpartum recovery – it will also help moms and teens recover from menstrual cycle pain, endometriosis, and hysterectomies.

Q5: What challenges have you faced in growing Rose Maternity Co., and how have you adapted to meet the needs of a diverse and evolving parent community?

Britnee Wheeler: One of our main challenges has been providing a solution to a problem that many first-time moms do not know they have yet. New mothers are often focused on the excitement of welcoming a new baby, and the needs of postpartum recovery can be an afterthought. We have adapted by focusing our education and outreach efforts on raising awareness about the importance of postpartum care and the benefits of products like our RoseRelief™ Undergarment.

We’ve also had to address the diverse needs of our Mom Community. Mothers come from all backgrounds and have unique experiences, so we’ve worked to ensure our products and resources are inclusive and accessible. Partnering with diverse industry leaders within the Black maternal health space has also been crucial in understanding and meeting the varied challenges faced by our moms.

Q6: As a Black entrepreneur, how do you see Rose Maternity Co. contributing to the normalization and support of breastfeeding within the Black community during World Black Breastfeeding Week?

Britnee Wheeler: As a Black entrepreneur, I see Rose Maternity Co. playing a crucial role in normalizing and supporting breastfeeding within the Black community by providing innovative postpartum solutions. Breastfeeding is a critical milestone tied directly to postpartum recovery.

I understand the struggles moms face in those early postpartum days, from tenderness and sutures to cesarean incisions and back pain. The RoseRelief™ Undergarment aims to change the narrative, allowing moms to focus on what truly matters – bonding with their newborns. During World Black Breastfeeding Week, we amplify the voices of Black mothers and share their breastfeeding journeys to highlight the importance and benefits of breastfeeding. Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers Black mothers to breastfeed and navigate their recovery with confidence and comfort.

Q7: What does being a Black-owned business in the maternity industry mean to you, and how do you hope Rose Maternity Co. inspires other Black entrepreneurs in this space?

Britnee Wheeler: Being a Black-owned business in the maternity industry is a profound source of pride and responsibility. It means being a representation and advocate for inclusivity in an industry that often ignores our voices. I hope Rose Maternity Co. serves as an inspiration to other Black entrepreneurs, demonstrating that it is possible to succeed and make a meaningful impact in the maternal health space.
